My husband Pedro and I will be leaving for Ushuaia in the southern tip of Argentina on Saturday, Nov. 12, where we plan to explore Tierra del Fuego National Park.  On Tuesday, Nov. 15 we will board a small expedition ship making stops at various islands including the Falklands until arriving in the Antarctic Peninsula.  Our itinerary is not fixed; we are traveling with naturalists and will go where we have the best opportunities to view the wildlife in this remote and inhospitable part of the world.  We will not have any internet access once we leave Ushuaia until we return there 16 days later, so please refer to this article for any schedule changes from Nov. 14 through Dec. 3.

"The gut microbiota and its effect on the immune system has been a major topic for discussion in the past decade. We have only begun to understand that the microbes that inhabit our gut (our “gut bacteria”) can influence the immune system. In return, our immune system similarly impacts the existence of healthy and harmful bacteria in our gut."

      - Dr. David Jockers DC, MS, CSCS, How Your Gut Bacteria Control Your Response to Cancer Treatments (article)

Almost every day more evidence is emerging to support the belief that disease originates in the gut, and a healthy intestinal microbiome is integral to the health of the human body in which it resides. This is cutting-edge modern medical research, but Hippocrates, lacking our sophisticated medical technology, made this discovery over 2,000 years ago when he stated, "All disease begins in the Gut."

In addition to maintaining a strong immune system able to self-repair and remove toxins from the body, a healthy gut microbiota has been found to enhance the efficacy of current cancer treatments, supporting the body's natural ability to heal.

Achieving optimal health through lifestyle and nutrition has long been my passion, and so I am offering a Cultural Foods Workshop in which I teach participants how to improve gut health by making fermented foods, beverages and desserts to nourish and replenish the gut microflora.  Please email me if you would like to attend, the date will then be determined by the group of participants.
